We explore an array of evidence-based and innovative career development strategies.
Mission: Fostering diversity in the STEM workforce benefits society in numerous ways. Thus, improving diversity in the STEM workforce is a national priority. The INCREASE program seeks to enhance minority students' career readiness, influence employment outcomes, and inform strategic career interventions.
Outcomes: The project team examines the effects of theoretical programmatic components and best practices. We hypothesize that INCREASE participants will be able to utilize workforce development strategies to procure a STEM job after graduation.
Incentive: The program consists of eight interactive workshops (one session in the Fall 2024 semester and seven sessions in the Spring 2025 semester). Student participants will receive $800 for full participation and completion of the program. INCREASE participants will also interact with STEM professionals and companies.
Eligibility: Participants must be Saint Augustine's University juniors and seniors from the Biological and Physical Sciences, Computer Information Systems, Exercise Science, Mathematics, and Public Health departments who want to pursue a STEM career within three to five months after graduation.
Framework: INCREASE participants engage in STEM research, career workshops, and an internship at a STEM company. Additionally, INCREASE participants learn how to utilize mentors, write cover letters, produce resumes, and practice interviewing. INCREASE participants also explore a myriad of STEM jobs.
Schedule: Workshop sessions take place on Fridays in Room 109 Penick Hall. The dates for INCREASE (2024-2025) are November 15, January 24, February 7, February 21, February 28, March 21, April 11, and April 18. from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm. Summer internships take place between May and August.
